About
Propel Tutoring was founded after years of working closely with students as tutors and teacher aides, where we saw many families navigating a tutoring landscape that often lacked reliability, clarity, and long-term direction.
As Australian education systems, particularly the QCE, continue to grow more complex alongside rapid advances in technology, students increasingly need more than subject-specific support. They need structured guidance that helps them understand their learning, manage expectations, and make informed decisions about their future.
We created Propel Tutoring to provide a genuinely comprehensive layer of external support that strengthens academic performance while also supporting confidence, pathway planning, and healthy study-life balance.
A key part of this approach is transparency. We place strong emphasis on keeping parents informed and involved through regular session summaries, progress tracking, and clear communication around assessments and homework, so families always understand both day-to-day progress and the broader academic picture.
How we started
Propel Tutoring is led by Joel and Jay, two local university students who have been friends for over a decade and share a genuine passion for learning, personal growth, and helping young people find direction through education. Having both performed strongly at school themselves, they understand that academic success is not just about ability, but about curiosity, motivation, and perseverance, as well as learning how to understand yourself and the world around you.
Who we are
-
Joel is a Bachelor of Psychology student with a strong background in private tutoring and classroom support, having worked as a tutor and teacher aide for over four years. With an ATAR of 99.05 and experience across the Queensland school system, Joel brings a deep understanding of how students learn, think, and build confidence, using tutoring as a structured and supportive tool to elevate performance.
-
Jay is a Bachelor of Engineering student who achieved a 98.95 ATAR and has spent the past five years working as a private tutor. He is particularly passionate about helping students reach those moments of clarity where concepts truly click, and is driven by a desire to make tutoring more organised, reliable, and genuinely comprehensive for both students and parents.
Together, Joel and Jay bring academic excellence, real classroom experience, and a shared commitment to providing structured, transparent, and meaningful support that helps students succeed both now and into the future.
